Free Silhouette Alta Software: Silhouette 3D You want to download the Silhouette 3D software for the Alta from the Silhouette America website. Install it onto your computer. All of the designs in your regular Silhouette Studio Cloud folder will also be accessible in the Silhouette Alta software. This means you can use your Silhouette Studio files or SVGs in both software programs. Opening Silhouette Studio Cut File Designs in Silhouette 3D Start in Silhouette Studio by finding your design. I would highly suggest you start with a very simple solid design to start. I was working with a cut file of my son's profile that I had originally traced from a photograph. For my first Silhouette Alta project, I wanted to try to print it as a keychain so in Silhouette Studio I added a circle for the hole.I got a lot of questions about why I started with something so simple. The answer is because this is my first time printing a 3D project, using the the Silhouette 3D software, and using the Alta. I'm learning...and I learn the way I suggest you learn all of your Silhouette machines and techniques...by mastering the basics before jumping into something too complex or advanced.I would suggest you size your design in Silhouette Studio because the dimensions in Silhouette 3D are in mm and I have no idea what that equates to in inches. You'll be like me and end up doing a lot of googling if you don't pre-size in Silhouette Studio.Next save the design to your Silhouette Cloud library. I saved mine in a sub folder called "3D Designs".Open Silhouette 3D. If you already have Silhouette 3D launched, you'll need to sync your cloud library for the new design to show up. Just right click the little icon > Sync. (No need to sync if you are launching Silhouette 3D up.) When you are in the Silhouette 3D Library find the correct folder and the design inside.Double click on a design to open it in the work area. You'll then be given six options for how you want to open the design.I would suggest you start with the basic Extrusion. If you want to add more depth then the default grab the square nodule in the middle and pull up or manually enter a dimension for H(eight) along the top tool bar. When you're ready move to the 3D Print tab. Printing Your First 3D Silhouette Alta ProjectHere is where you'll find the estimate time to print and the estimate material usage. For your first print I would not change any defaults. Simply make sure the USB from your Alta is connected to the computer, the Silhouette Alta is powered on, and click "Print".The arms on the machine will move the head to the front of the base while the 3d printer warms up. Then the printer will begin with a test line and printing will then begin. When the print is finished, use the spatula to carefully remove the printed 3D object

Row to turn on the registration marks. To make sure that there is no white border when your design is cut, check the box next to “Print Bleed”. This function works similar to a bleed that you set up in Adobe Illustrator. The color will extend just beyond the cut lines so when the design is cut, there will be no white border. You will not be able to see this on the preview screen. Set the media size to “printer” and check the boxes next to “show print border” and “show cut border” Resize your design to your desired size, making sure that it stays within the print and cut borders and does not touch the registration marks.Hit the “Send” button and make sure that the only line set to cut is the outline of the design. HOW TO PRINT FROM SILHOUETTE TO PRINTERTo print your design, hit FILE>PRINT and send it to your printer. The design and registration marks will print. Make sure that once you hit “print”, you do not adjust the design in any way. If you move it on your canvas, it will not cut correctly in the next step.HOW TO PRINT AND CUT ON SILHOUETTE CAMEO 4Once the design is printed, place your material onto a cutting mat and load it into your Silhouette. Go back to the SEND panel and double-check that only the outside of the design is set to cut. Choose your material from the drop-down menu. Most likely, you will be using cardstock or sticker paper but you can also use other materials. If using a Silhouette Cameo 4, make sure the auto blade is loaded correctly and hit “SEND”. If you are using a Silhouette model without an autoblade, you will have to adjust the blade depth manually. Once you hit
