And it's a good thing they show interest, because after a period of hibernation, due to many factors (mostly developers dropping out and, of course, the rise of Windows 10) Blackbox is back with a vengeance. Before I start talking about Blackbox, a little piece of history seems to be appropriate. A long time ago and in a galaxy far away, Windows were a slow, drab, lacking Operating System. So, a lot of different alternative shells were developed to make Windows more fast, more productive and, above all, more pretty.Alternative shells? What is a shell? Well, it's the dressing over a cake, the clothing over a body, the greenery covering a bush. Every operating system has a shell. It determines the way the OS looks and responds to the user. The Windows' native shell is Explorer, which is not only a file browser, like most of you may think. Delete Explorer and Windows crash. It was a good shell when Windows XP and 7 were around, but keeps deteriorating ever since. Windows 10 may be a better Operating System in some ways, but they took away something that is vital to us all: freedom of choice. As recently as 5 years back, we had a lot of alternative shells (about 30) to choose from and rice our desktops and/or get a faster computer response, making for Explorer's (and, thus, Windows') shortcomings. Litestep, Blackbox, Serenade, Talisman, Emerge, IceSphere, Reveal, Aston, WinStep, DesktopX, are just a few. Some of them, like Blackbox and Litestep, were free, while some others, like Aston and DesktopX, were commercial programs. Even Microsoft, knowing how inadequate Windows were, came up with their own alternative shell – E-Sense – so demanding (for its era)LiteStep Portable Beta 5 - PortableApps.com
DeskSpace now keeps the application on its original desktop and optionally displays an "application attention" message. DeskSpace 1.5.5.3 Feature - When an application requires attention the name of the application is now included in the attention message. Feature - Default window filters for WinAMP and Delphi applications are now loaded if they do not already exist. Bug Fix - DeskSpace now works with shell replacements, such as Emerge Desktop and LiteStep, that do not have a taskbar. Bug Fix - DeskSpace now correctly displays the desktop cube on computers with video card drivers that incorrectly report the resolution when the font size is not 96 DPI. Bug Fix - DeskSpace now defaults to English if it cannot find a language localization file. Bug Fix - The desktop cube no longer appears vertically elogated when rotating at certain angles. DeskSpace 1.5.5.2 Feature - Cached cube face images are now stored in the Windows temporary directory instead of the user application data directory. Bug Fix - Command prompt windows are now correctly handled by DeskSpace. Bug Fix - DeskSpace no longer displays certain windows on all desktops if they are moved or sized. Bug Fix - DeskSpace is now more compatible with Microsoft Outlook, Paint .NET, Aptana Studio, Eclipse, and applications written in Delphi, such as Skype, FastStone Image Viewer, and MP3Toys. Bug Fix - DeskSpace again handles desktops that have dimensions greater than the video cards maximum texture size (this feature was broken in DeskSpace 1.5.5). Bug Fix - DeskSpace now. 2xExplorerOne day, probably not entirely unrelated to installation and usage of LiteStep, it turned out that the old workhorse Explorer simply didn't like it's enviroment anymore. Probably it suspected that it was no longer working under a shell that bore its name, became jealous of the newcomer and decided to refuse further cooperation. To cut things short: it started crashing, and often too. This didn't do anything good for neither overall stability nor productivity. So, I asked myself, is there a better working, preferably free, replacement around? And if so, how do I find it? Don't remember the exact answer to the second question, but to the first one the answer quickly turned out to big a big happy yes! 2xExplorer was a pretty small download, completely free and so far it hasn't caused a single problem. It also does everything the usual Explorer does plus a heap more things if you care to find out. The greatest thing is it has two "exploration" windows, window panes, at the same time, plus the tree view.Once you install and run 2xExplorer, you'll leave Explorer and never need to look back. And that's regardless of wether you use the standard Windows shell or some nice replacement. Installation, by the way, is the whole cumbersome process of unzipping the program into a folder of choice, a second or two of painful action :-) ... Okay, the search function isn't as easy to use as Windows' standard one, but nobody's stopping you from using that one.Homepage and download at Right-click the Rainmeter Windows Notification area icon and select Refresh all. Still not getting the update message. Please help as i want to update my moto x to lollipop.i used the asia retail ver. XT1052_RETAIL-ASIA_4.4.4_KXA21.12-L1.26_18_cid7_CFC_1FF.xml.zip Dont bother brother. Just download the captured ota. On your pc and then put it in your phone and then sideload it. That will be a lot easier task. I did the same thing.Sent from my XT1052 #811 NOTE, YES, THIS IS A LONG DRAWN OUT VERSION OF WHAT IS ACTUALLY VERY VERY QUICK PROCESS. This is for reference only. I know there are a few people out there just like me who probably had a few small hickups getting back to stock with the firmware. This is to help "spoon-feed" the instructions to you.Two Methods-Method 1 - RSD LiteMethod 2 - Manual FlashIf you cannot get RSD Lite to recognize your device, try Method 2, it works like a charm!Downloads:I assume you already have adb drivers if you're even here.....otherwise get them from the latest sdk here: Drivers (Motorola Device Manager): Lite (I used version 6.1.5): - Extract and use 6.1.5Stock Firmware: thanks to Skrilax_CZ and Firmware TeamMoto Fastboot exe: - NOTE - YOU MUST UNZIP AND USE THIS WHERE MANUAL FLASH SAYS "mfastboot"My Setup: Windows 8 machine My Device: VZW Moto X METHOD 1 - RSD LITEStep One - Download and install RSD Lite. At the moment, I can't find where I got mine from, so anyone who wants to add a proper link to it would be appreciated. I used version 6.1.5 and it worked fine.Step Two - proper driver installation. If you're like me, you probably at one point got drivers quasi-working but here's what I did that worked - download and install "Motorola Device Manager" and it *should* give you the proper drivers. This was necessary (maybe) because I could get adb to recognize my device, as well as fastboot, however RSD refused to see it. This install fixed that. Step Three - download and install the proper firmware for your device. NOTE: You MUST MUST MUST choose the right firmware for your device or you will FUBAR your phone.....not my responsibility.Step Four - Unzip your firmware zip file, open it up through the layers and find the file "VZW_XT1060_4.2.2-13.9.0Q2.X-116-MX-17-53_CFC_1FF" or whatever version/carrier/build number file yours is, its the XML Document file.
