Method 1 - Revert to an older version of Kindle for PC/MacAt the moment Kindle version 1.17 is still available from Amazon and can be installed to work around this problem. I suggest following steps:Launch Kindle and under the menu choice "Tools", "Options", "General", uncheck "Automatically install updates when they are available without asking me."Exit the Kindle program.Delete the contents of the "My Kindle Content" folder within your "Documents" folder.Download version 1.17 of Kindle. It is safest to download it directly from Amazon, instead of going to a third party site. Direct links are for PC and for Mac.Install the downloaded version 1.17 software.Launch it and check that the option to automatically install updates is still turned off.Kindle may need to be registered by signing in to your Amazon account within the program. Some users have reported being unable to sign in to their Amazon account within Kindle for PC once version 1.17 is reinstalled. If that occurs go to the Amazon website and on the manage your content and devices page, and on the "Your Devices" tab locate "Kindle for PC" (or Mac) and deregister it using the "..." Amazon has started sending out emails to Kindle owners with older devices notifying them that they need to make sure their Kindle’s software is up-to-date in order to continue downloading Kindle books and having access to the Kindle store and other Kindle services. All Kindles from the very first generation model all the way up to the Kindle Paperwhite 2 are affected. If they have older outdated software after March 22nd, then downloads won’t work, the Kindle store won’t work, and other Kindle services will stop working as well.Like usual, Amazon isn’t giving any specific details about the change but obviously they are updating or changing how Kindle books and services are served to Kindle devices. To be clear, there isn’t a “new” update specifically for this change; Kindles just need to be up-to-date with current software, not necessarily the latest software. It’s more about transitioning devices from older outdated software to newer software. In most cases all you need to do to make sure your Kindle gets the required update is to turn on Wi-Fi or 3G wireless. Amazon has released a new software update for its Kindle range of devices, including the Kindle Scribe. As the eBook Reader Blog stated, the latest update carrying version number 5.16.2.1.1 will apply as far back as the 7th-gen Kindle Paperwhite to the most recent 11th-gen Kindle Paperwhite. The software update that applies to the Kindle Scribe has version number 5.16.2.0.1.Amazon, however, hasn’t made available any release note for the said updates, which makes us feel it likely is just a minor update with some bug fixes at best. Also, the version number of the latest update has only a 1 added at the end of the previous update version. Another possibility is that the latest update introduces some new feature that will likely be activated sometime later. In any case, it could be hard to find out if anything has changed on either the Kindle e-reader or the Scribe e-note once you have installed the update. The download links for both updates are available on the Kindle Software Update page at Amazon. Interestingly, there have been three updates that Amazon has released so far this year and all of them were only minor updates that didn’t introduce any new features in the Kindle devices. The company also has a product launch event lined up next month and it remains to be seen if they have a new Kindle e-reader or an e-note device slated for launch. A Kindle Oasis replacement has long been overdue while a smaller Kindle Scribe too can’t entirely be ruled out either. Or maybe we will have both in the form of a new e-reader with page-turn buttons and note-taking capability. It is going to be exciting to see what comes out eventually. Customer reviews before you hand anything over.FAQs(Image credit: Getty Images)Why is my Kindle frozen? There are a couple of reason you may be experiencing issues with your Kindle freezing. One of the most common reasons and the one that can be fixed easiest is that your Kindle is running out of power. When your device has significant low power than it reduces the power going to the main processor therefore causing it to freeze and malfunction. Another reason your Kindle might have frozen is that it may be due an update. If you've not updated your Kindle's firmware in a while, the device may be suffering from bugs that have been resolved in the latest update. When you've successfully got it un-frozen using one of the aforementioned steps then check your settings for the newest update and download it. Your Kindle may also be suffering from memory issues. Kindles are designed to only store so much data so if they're reaching their max capacity you may start to see some slowness and eventual freezing. If this is the case, it might be time to clear out some of the old books you no longer need or want to read. Freezing may also occur when using the web browser feature on your Kindle, the devices don't have much processing power so something like being on a web browser can slow it's functioning speed down. How do I reset an unresponsive Kindle? If the touchscreen of your Kindle isn't responding, your screen is frozen, or it's generally working slowly, you can re-set the Kindle using the buttons. Amazon says to 'press and hold the power button until a power dialogue box appears or the screen goes blank. Continue holding the power button for 40 seconds, then release.' It almost sounds too simple, but it works for resolving a lot of issues. How do you hard reset your Kindle?A hard reset is also known as a factory reset. It's the last of the three methods that we recommend trying, since it will wipe all the data on your Kindle. To do a hard reset and reboot, you'll want to go into your settings, tap on Device Options, tap Reset (or Reset Device), confirm that you want to reset your Kindle and then it will do the rest for you.Why is my Kindle stuck on waking up?If your Kindle is stuck on waking up and it's. Your software in the first place. My PC Kindle version is 1.32 and Epubor Ultimate is the current version. I installed your latest software, it asked that I downgrade the installed kindle software to 1.32. I did that and could not download any kindle books. The kindle software crashed then when I restarted it automatically updated to version 1.39.xx When I try and use the software I get an error stating that the kindle KFX files could not be converted and that I had to reinstall a lower version of kindle. Are you going to fix this issue? I cannot install Kindle 1.32 as it auto upgrades, even with the checkbox unticked for checking for new version. Thanks hi i purchased a book and send it to my kindle desktop 1.32 and its not letting it download getting error: "item not available for the device type" your kindle app requires an update to view this content... and if i update the kindle app and download it wont convert on epubor ultimate and it will stay stuck on drm removal. what can i do? I have been through all the options at none of these are working. Option #1 needs version 1.32, however to open a book on Kindle for PC you now need 1.40. There is no option in kindle unlimted to download the book to USB, so solution #3 is also not an option. Any ideas? I am trying to download a book and older version of Kindle for PC will not download the book insisting on upgraded, and the only one online is 1.40. When I installed Epubor it downgraded to 1.32, which will not access the book. I was able to download the book with 1.40, but the book was identified as AZW, yet when trying to check DRM I was informed it's a Kindle KFX file, even though it has an AZW extension?!Amazon Pushes Mandatory Update for Kindle iOS App Ahead of
