His friends figure out how to escape from the unsettling world of a daycare controlled by an authoritarian bear named Lotso (Ned Beatty) while also making new friends, including a Ken doll (Michael Keaton). But, for a generation of moviegoers (myself included), Toy Story 3 also carries the extratextual, nostalgic weight of serving as an important piece of closure on a 15-year franchise we grew up watching. We met Woody and Buzz Lightyear when we were kids back in 1995’s Toy Story, returned for a new adventure in 1999’s Toy Story 2, and, by the time Toy Story 3 rolled around, we thought we’d be saying good-bye for good (which ended up not actually being the case, but still). As such, watching Toy Story 3 means risking the possible — and highly emotional — confrontation with one’s own fears about growing up and wrestling with what it means to move on. While it’s not particularly original to say Pixar stories are probably shaped to elicit maximum heartstring-tugging reactions, it’s nonetheless true in Toy Story 3’s case. For this reason, in addition to the themes of the movie and the fun to be had while watching (and there is fun to be had, I promise), Toy Story 3 is one of the most beautiful and well-done trilogy enders served up by Disney or Pixar so far this century. - Allie Gemmill Tangled (2010) Image via Disney To be perfectly honest, as Pixar soared in the early 2000s, Walt Disney Animation Studios was in dire straights. The once-great institution was now struggling to find its identity, as the power of its 90s masterpieces was quickly fading. And while WDAS films like Frozen and Wreck-It Ralph certainly made big splashes, the studio’s turnaround actually began a few years earlier with a pair of fairy tales: The Princess and the Frog, and 2010’s Tangled. The latter fully brought WDAS into the age of CG-animation that was also cinematic, but the film’s story itself was also classic fairy tale like the greatest WDAS movies in history. The twist here, and the thing that put WDAS on the path to success, was that Tangled was unmistakably modern. Yes it took place in the distant past, but there’s a modernity to the dialogue and style that’s really striking, and that shows Disney finally finding sure footing after stumbling through Shrek ripoffs and misguided nostalgia plays. The songs in Tangled are fantastic, the visuals are stunning, and the new twist on the Rapunzel story is refreshing and fun. If you’re looking for a new way to liven up your next Zoom call, then the addition of a third-party background is an easy way to do it. Since the coronavirus outbreak was classified as a pandemic, many cities and even countries have turned to stay-at-home orders to try and slow the spread. In turn, this has led to an increase in the use of many online services, including video chat apps, with Zoom one of those that has quickly risen the ranks. There are two main reasons why this service is proving so popular, and the first is the number of users that can take part in the same call. The second is the wide support for third-party virtual backgrounds. With an increased need for virtual backgrounds, many companies and brands have been stepping forward to offer their photos and artwork for use, for free. Disney is no exception, as it recently made available a selection of backgrounds from some of its popular animation movies. How To Add Disney Animation Backgrounds To Zoom Calls Adding a Walt Disney Animation Studios virtual background to your next Zoom call is fairly easy to do. First, visit the Walt Disney page where the images are stored and click or tap on the download link for the background you want to use.
