After she was fatally shot at the hands of her former fan club president, Yolanda Saldívar, on March 31, 1995, Selena’s loved ones have honored her memory in numerous ways. They’ve worked on several film and TV projects, including the 1997 movie Selena starring Jennifer Lopez, which Abraham executive produced, the 2020 Netflix show Selena: The Series, which A.B. and Suzette produced, her posthumous Moonchild Mixes album, which A.B. produced in 2022, and a memoir by Abraham. “In my mind, she’s still alive, because you get involved with all her things and doing things for her every day that sometimes I forget that she’s not here with us anymore,” Abraham told Entertainment Tonight in March 2017. “So in a sort of way, it’s hard to explain, in my mind, she’s alive." If I had tickets to see a performance at my local theatre, I’d make sure to come late so I wouldn’t have to hear “Death on Two Legs,” and I’d probably powder my nose and grab a cigarette during “The Prophet’s Song” and “Love of My Life.” But at the end of the play, I would stand with the rest of the audience and join in with what I would expect to be a thunderous ovation. 20 March 2023, 15:30 Brian May received a knighthood as part of the New Years Honours List 2023. Picture: Getty Arise Sir Brian May. For many Queen fans - that of the rock group and not Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, of course - a knighthood has been a long time coming. There's been an irrefutable connection between the monarchy and fifth best-selling rock band of all time. And not just because of the name. This week, guitar god Brian May was finally knighted after being revealed as one of New Years Honours List at the tail end of 2022. And it was perhaps quite fitting that it was King Charles III to bestow Brian with the knighthood, given the pair's connection over the years in regards to their animal rights activism. Remembering Queen’s beautiful but ‘forgotten’ Live Aid performanceWhat Freddie Mercury thought of the Wayne's World scene that sparked Queen's revival'It changed me': The night Brian May played 'God Save The Queen' on the roof of Buckingham PalaceThe Story of... 'These Are the Days of Our Lives' by Queen, Freddie Mercury's heartbreaking farewellAside from his activism, the 75-year old guitar slinger was a logical choice to be honoured, given his services to rock music and having performed at two Jubilee concerts for the late Queen, playing the national anthem on the roof of Buckingham Palace over two decades ago which he maintains was a career highlight. But even though it was Brian being honoured, he still had bandmate, dear friend, and rock legend Freddie Mercury in his thoughts. As an integral part of Queen's astronomical success over the years, Brian believes Freddie would've been "honoured long ago" had he still been alive. I think if he’d been around he would have been honoured long ago and very rightly so.""So we’re left here and have to deal with the honoursWho is still alive from the band Queen? - baiadellaconoscenza.com
Bonnie Bowes still remembers the last words she ever said to her daughter, Judy Malinowski. A victim of an unthinkable attack, Judy spent two years in a hospital bed after she was burned alive by her ex-boyfriend outside an Ohio gas station. But she was determined to survive long enough to see justice served, and shortly before her death, she recorded videotaped testimony that was later played at trial — becoming the one of the first people in U.S. history to testify at her own murder trial. Judy, a former homecoming queen who later in life survived cancer, was “friends with everybody” she met, her mother says in this week’s issue of PEOPLE. Bowes, 60, details her daughter’s determination to cling to life so that justice could be carried out against Michael Slager, the man responsible for the deadly 2015 attack. For anyone who has wondered about where the number 960 came from as the number of possible opening positions in Chess960, I will demonstrate the calculation here. I’m a math guy, so it was actually fun for me to work this out.Let’s start with the Bishops, who need to occupy different colors. On the first rank, there are 4 light squares which the LSB could occupy, and there are 4 dark squares which the DSB could occupy. Thus, there are 4 x 4 = 16 ways in which the bishop pair could be placed.Next, let’s focus on the Rook-King-Rook trio where the King must be in between the Rooks. For any given placement of the bishops, there are 6 remaining squares to place this trio of 3 pieces. This amounts to 6 choose 3, or 6! / 3! / 3! = 720 / 6 / 6 = 20 possible placements of the Rook-King-Rook trio once the Bishop pair is placed.Next: The Queen placement. At this point, 5 pieces have been placed into a Chess960 opening position (the Bishops, Rooks, and King). There are 3 squares left for the Queen to occupy.Lastly, the Knights. The placement of this pair is trivial. The other 6 squares have been occupied, so there is only 1 way to place the pair of Knights at this point. So, the number of possible starting positions can be computed by:(Bishop pair possibilities) x (Rook-King-Rook possibilities) x (Queen Possibilities) x (Knight pair possibilities) = 16 x 20 x 3 x 1 = 960.There you have it in case anybody was curious. Let me know if anyone wants clarification. I have explained on more than one occasion in the past the correct method to calculate the number.Your approach does not follow the procedure for setting up the position on the board in practice, you do K + R + R after the Bishops which is wrong.First the basics, you have to derive a formula that works for everything. You use only 3 squares say A1 + B1 + C1 and you start with K + Q + R.The total combinations are King (3) x Queen (2) x Rook (1) = 3 * 2 * 1 = 6.Now you take away the Queen and replace it with the second Rook, is it still 6 positions? For mathematics it is but for chess it is not because the 2 Rooks are considered to be exactly the same, switch them around and nothing really changes. So you modify the formula as: number of squares / number of piecesSo for K + Q + R = (3/1) * (2/1) * (1/1) = 3 * 2 * 1 = 6So for K + R + R = (3/1)Comments
