#1 I have an imac g3 400 DV. it has a dvd rom drive, and it plays dvd movies fine. But whenever I insert a DVD+R writable disc, it instantly ejects it; it doesn't recognize it. the reason I want to use DVD+R is to install Tiger. So... what do I do?Thanks! #2 Has the disc been written to and finalized? Blank DVDs will not work. #3 no, i just put a blank disc in to see if it would work before burning it. Maybe that's it... maybe it doesn't do anything with blank discs #4 ROM = Read-Only Memory. If there is nothing on the disc, the drive can't do anything with it and spits it out. #5 okay I burned Tiger onto a DVD+R, and it still ejects it. Whenever I put the dvd into my newer macbook pro, it reads it fine, with the installation program showing. What's the deal? Thanks! #7 Get a firewire DVD burner and you will be set. You have a rather rare optical drive in your iMac G3, btw. Rare because it plays dvds, rarer still because it still works after ten years. There is also a rather laborious way to upgrade the dvd rom to a more modern pata optical drive with a lot of fuss and jerry rigging. easier just to get the firewire dvd burner/player. Or copy a Tiger disc to a firewire hd. #8 Well ugh. I went and bought DVD-R's. Still didn't work! why?!And I realllly don't want to buy another drive... :/thanks - will not function in a DVD player. It has worked very well until recently. Now when I insert a DVD, DVD Player does not show up, the inserted disc does not show up. I just connected the external DVD drive to my wife's even older Mac Book Pro and the disc was immediately recognized, DVD Player started up, the DVD started to play. That tells me the external DVD/Blueray drive is OK and the problem lies in the iMac. This external drive takes two USB ports on the back of the Mac. These I've connected directly to the iMac.
