The port of fldigi to the Windows operating system is built using cross-compilers on Linux. The cross-compilation environment is created using mingw32. Installing fldigi on windows is very simple. Simply execute the installer program and both fldigi and flarq will be installed in the default programs directory structure for the specific Microsoft version that is being targeted. Desktop icons and desktop menu items will be created. An uninstaller link will be created on the desktop menu. Click on the desktop icon to start the application. If this is a new installation you will be guided through the inital configuration with a new install wizard. Resize the main dialog to suit your screen. Adjust the Rx/Tx divider to your liking. Then set up the operator and sound card configuration items; configuring fldigi. When you have fldigi receiving and decoding signals you can exit the application which will allow you to save your configuration settings. Now open up the following folder using your windows file explorer if you do not have a login name and password: On XP C:"Documents and Settings\\fldigi.files" On W2K C:"Documents and Settings\\fldigi.files" On Vista/Win7 C:\User\\fldigi.files where is the name with which you log onto the computer. All of these files were generated by fldigi when it first started. The files with the extension pal are palette definition files. While waiting for Kiwi 2 issues to get sorted out I started to take a look at Fldigi (open source ham digital mode decoder) with an eye toward adding a digital mode extension. I started by implementing the RSID function. Works fine.But then I started listening around the bands. My conclusion is that no one is using RSID. A real shame. Worse, no one seems to be using any (or few) of the modes Fldigi supports. Let's set FT8(4)/JS8CALL/WSPR and RTTY aside for the moment. The rest of the activity seems to be VARA+chat or some version of PACTOR. Both of those are proprietary without any open source implementations I can find.Now, I haven't listened for more than a few hours. But does this reflect reality? Would I be wasting my time porting more modes from Fldigi? It seems MFSK32/64 is useful (especially image mode) as that shows up in the Shortwave Radiogram transmissions. And I'm probably going to port the Fldigi CW decoder since it seems superior to what we have now.I'd appreciate your opinions about this.

While waiting for Kiwi 2 issues to get sorted out I started to take a look at Fldigi (open source ham digital mode decoder) with an eye toward adding a digital mode extension. I started by implementing the RSID function. Works fine.But then I started listening around the bands. My conclusion is that no one is using RSID. A real shame. Worse, no one seems to be using any (or few) of the modes Fldigi supports. Let's set FT8(4)/JS8CALL/WSPR and RTTY aside for the moment. The rest of the activity seems to be VARA+chat or some version of PACTOR. Both of those are proprietary without any open source implementations I can find.Now, I haven't listened for more than a few hours. But does this reflect reality? Would I be wasting my time porting more modes from Fldigi? It seems MFSK32/64 is useful (especially image mode) as that shows up in the Shortwave Radiogram transmissions. And I'm probably going to port the Fldigi CW decoder since it seems superior to what we have now.I'd appreciate your opinions about this.

With the popularity of the Raspberry Pi and the growing need of NBEMS, I wondered if it was possible to run NBEMS programs on the Pi. This maybe of interest to those who want to make a Go Kit (box) with digital or a club wants to replace older computers in their operations center with more efficient devices.Fldigi is the program used and developed for Narrow Band Emergency Messaging System, but it does so much more. It’s also the standard for many Ham Radio operators because of the number of modes the software will operate.Fldigi stands for Fast Light Digital modem application created by W1HKJ (David Freese, Jr.) and associates. With the source code available for Linux, I wondered if it was possible to compile the application on the Raspberry Pi.At first I had some problems with the project. After (wasting) alot of time on it, I had given up. Only to find out the power supply I had been using was the cause of the issues.RequirementsWork with my SignaLink USB. As a standard with my projects, the Pi can administered through SSH and VNC if needed. Later iterations will be faster. The results are in the format of the Linux command time, which contrary to it’s name does not set the time. It gives statistics about this program run. They consist of the elapsed real time between invocation and termination, the user CPU time, and the system CPU time. Later versions than listed above were used in this face off: Raspbian Jessie 2016-05-27, Fldigi 3.23.10, Flmsg 3.0.0, Flwrap is the same at 1.3.4.Raspberry Pi B+Failed. Apparently there is an issue running the Make command for Fldigi with versions later than the ones I originally used in this writeup. By the error messages this is an internal g++ compiler error.
