Lives for gear Joined: Jun 2003 🎧 20 years I tried the Boz ProVocative demo, and it's a cool plug*, but I think Micro Shift is better (and right now, not a lot more expensive). As others have noted, while it can do the more obvious, in-your-face effects as well as most others, where it really shines is the subtle stuff, where you might not even guess the vocal had a doubler on it until you bypass it and it suddenly sounds smaller and thinner. I'm going to have to fight the temptation to use it on everything (though come to think of it, the Beatles didn't fight that temptation, so who am I to say they were wrong? ) A wonderful, game-changing plugin for me.*However, doing an A/B test of ProVocative and Micro Shift on the same track just now, I uncovered a bug in the former: in bypass, it screws with the stereo balance of the track. I had Micro Shift after ProVocative in the plugin chain and when I bypassed ProVocative, suddenly the left channel was much louder than the right, even before I took Micro Shift out of bypass. This makes three plugins in a row from Boz that have had bugs in my DAW: T-Bone (crashes), Gatey Watey (intermittent function) and now this. So I'm off Boz for good. Stability is not optional. I'll often put EchoBoy in front of a reverb to supply predelay and crunch (the saturation on EchoBoy is top notch). What a lot of newbies hear as being a "reverb" is actually a delay. I use a lot of it.Like you said before Echoboy it took a little work to make an echo plugin sound great. All the Echoboy presets sound amazing as is with little need of hi-pass lo-pass filters or added modulation. If anything, I sometimes add LittlePlate just behind but it always sounds pro. It is probably my most useful plugin. SoundToys are the king of delay, prince of saturation...and their EQ isn't too shabby either! MicroShift may be more expensive but do you want something that sounds like it is apart of your source or do you want something that sounds plastered on?Budget will dictate purchases, no doubt.
