Jan 14, 2012I am hearing some good things from my users about gSyncit, an Outlook add-on that syncs Outlook data with a number of cloud services. I haven’t tested it myself yet, but it looks like it may be a reasonable way to sync ToodleDo tasks into Outlook. It also syncs calendar and contacts data with Google, and notes with Dropbox. But I am most interested in its ability to do a ToodleDo tasks sync, and it looks good for that.It’s not exactly what I am looking for since I am an Exchange user and gSyncit does not sync directly between the Exchange Server to ToodleDo server; you need Outlook running on your computer to make the sync. Why is that an issue? Well, say you are traveling without your computer and just using mobile devices… if your computer at home is not running, the sync may not happen. But that’s a “corner case” as they say, and this should still work for most cases with Exchange users.That said, I think the main customer for this product would be Outlook users who do not use Exchange. In other words, you are using Outlook to access your email from a POP mail server or equivalent (e.g. Gmail, Yahoo mail, AOL, Hotmail, and so on). For users like that, Outlook tasks are only stored on their computer, and they have no way to put their tasks in the cloud. So, gSyncit provides that way—you can now use ToodleDo as your tasks server and then use any of ToodleDo’s mobile apps to access your tasks on the road.One other possible use of gSyncit is this. If you are a ToodleDo user and normally travel with your laptop, you can use gSyncit to allow you to use Outlook as your offline client for ToodleDo. Think about this. If you normally use the web version of ToodleDo to access your tasks, what if you are on a plane and cannot access the web? How do you access your tasks then? You’d need to use one of ToodleDo’s third-party Windows applications (like Task Angel) and have kept that in sync before you got on the plane. Well, now you can use Outlook’s Tasks module for that solution, even if you do not normally use Outlook tasks otherwise.So gSyncit looks like it can fill a much needed niche. I entered data on the web and on the iPhone -- all was well until December 9 when the number of tasks on the ToDo icon (iPhone) disappeared and, although the icon remains, I cannot bring anything up to view. What does come up is black and then pops back to the iPhone opening screen. The Toodledo To Do List is still on the Web but it will not sync.Is it possible that I have too much data? How can I download Toodledo again for no charge?I have Notebook, and that is still operating, but not worth much without Toodledo. My iPhone is version 2.2 and I updated the new version of Toodledo on iTunes. I've tried everything I can think of.Does anyone have an answer to this problem? Slide the slider to turn off the iPhone. Then wait and turn it on again.2) Delete Toodledo from your iPhone and then download it again from the iTunes app store. Hi,I have used Toodledo for years and it's been extremely handy. I don't have a lot of sophisticated needs, so I'm not sure if other apps on the market would suit me as well. Two items:1. Will you continue to offer the free version now available? I am a non-paying user (but have recommended it to many people over the years).2. For them, auto syncing is an invisible solution that works great. The addition of a sync button on the home-screen, for them, would add an extra unnecessary thing for them to learn. If you need the sync button on the home page, just turn on manual syncing.Just out of curiosity, why do you need both auto-syncing and manual syncing? I've used PDAs for about 15 years (Sharp, Palm, HP, Blackberry, Palm again, and now an iPhone), and I've learned from bitter experience that any device can crash at any time, and when that happens, whatever I keyed in recently is usually gone. And, I probably won't remember all of the recent items. I use my iPhone so that I don't have to remember.I've missed important targets dates because my device crashed and I thought that I had everything backed up, but I forgot one or two key tasks. When I used a Blackberry with Exchange Server, I had instant synchronization, which is also what I got when I was using MobileMe for my appointments and contacts on my iPhone.I no longer have Exchange Server, and when I discovered Toodledo, it seemed that my worries were over. Now, I can't imagine ever using a task management system that doesn't synchronize almost immediately with a website.I started using Appigo's Todo, but it didn't support Contexts. When the Toodledo iPhone app came out, I immediately switched, but I didn't really like the interface as much as Todo. When Appigo introduced Contexts, I switched back. I think that their interface is much nicer, but they still don't support subtasks, so I'm currently using Toodledo for my more complex projects, and Todo for everything else.The Toodledo auto sync is great (better than Todo), but Todo offers a sync button on every screen.
