Author Topic: Ps3 and Dir655 media sharing (Read 13705 times) Hi, I recently got a Dir-655 wireless router. I have connected it to my ps3, however, when i search for media servers on it, it says no media server found. My PC runs windows 7. My previous router(linksys WRT54GC) worked with media sharing. If anyone knows how to resolve the problem, please reply. Thanks. « Last Edit: December 07, 2010, 03:36:23 PM by routernoob1 » Logged I use this same router with my PS3 and to stream content to it I used to use WMP11 and frankly it wasn't very effective. So, I heard about a program called TVersity and I'll tell you it's the best one out there and I will not use and other program to stream anything.Oh, and it's free. Logged Yes, I am using Tversity also and works just fine. The only drawback is that the PC running it must be on. It would be nice to have the router itself have a media server. Logged Works for me via WMP12, but by far the easiest to use is PS3 Media Server. I did try Tversity, but I found that PS3 Media Server was able to play more file formats and HD played more smoothly. Logged is there any way to just use wmp 12? i dont really want to download another program. Logged I attempted to use tversity, but my ps3 still did not detect any media server, is there any port on the router i need to open. Are there any advanced settings that need to be configued to get the media server on the DIR655 working. I really want to be able to stream content on my ps3 so any advice will help Logged You should not have to forward anything manually, assuming you have upnp enabled. Better check Tversity's help page to see what ports it uses. Depending on if you have one, and how it is set, you may have to configure your software firewall. If you want to try PS3 Media server, there is a really good setup guide here: Logged I have Windows 7 and McAfee Security, so that is what's controlling my firewall. If you know how to configues it please tell me. My old router worked for media sharing, so I'm not sure what to do with this router. Anything on router settings I need to check? Logged First, try disabling the firewall temporarily on McAfee. If you've done it correctly, Windows should prompt you that it is off and ask you to fix the problem. Leave that for now and check if your media server is working or not. If it is, re-enable and look to yourPS3 Media Server-SHB Download - PS3 Media Server is a DLNA
Media server help section for the ports it uses. You will need to set these up in your application rules on McAfee. If it still doesn't work, you have eliminated McAfee as your problem. You can do the same by disabling the firewall on your router, though it's unlikely that this is the problem since all the network traffic you are dealing with is inside your home network, not coming in from the internet. The link I provided will give you good information on setting up a media server, regardless of what it is. Just substitute the port information for Tversity's own. Honestly, please look this up as you will not be able to set this up correctly without knowing it. Logged I can't get my PS3 to see my media server (not a PC) unless I have UPnP (universal plug n play) checked (enabled). Make sure UPnP is enabled. Logged I can't get my PS3 to see my media server (not a PC) unless I have UPnP (universal plug n play) checked (enabled). Make sure UPnP is enabled.I have UPnP enabled. Is there something else needed for it to work? My UDP endpoint filtering is set to access restricted and the TCP endpoint filtering is set to port and access restricted. Not sure if this matters though, but tell me if that setting will affect anything. Logged What type of media server are we talking about? Is it recognized by your router and does it have it's own Static Ip address? I can't guarantee you that I will get this problem resolved for you, but I will try my best. I don't own this router but it should be close enough to the Dgl 4500.--Chris « Last Edit: December 23, 2010, 07:06:59 PM by LookIntoMyEyees » Logged Did I Help? If So, Say So! ShHHhh!, Just LookIntoMyEyees! No one is perfect, we all make mistakes. I have actually found the main problem to the media sharing issue. It is my McAfee security centre, which moniters my firewall. When my firewall is turned off, the PS3 detects the media server. However, when I turn the firewall on again, the PS3 cannot detect it. Now my only problem is how to enable the PS3 to share media with WMP12 with my McAfee firewall on. Logged Try to see if McAfee can accept a rule for the PS3 and this might help McAfee allow the PS3 connection services. In all actuality, if your network has a router on the system, software Firewalls are not really needed. Yes it's kind of a redundant system however over the years working with routers on households, the firewalls that come with routers are generally sufficient enough and SW.
