FileSieve 3 is a small program which organizes files and folders into highly configurable destination folders. As with software of its kind it is best used for organizing large amounts of files that accumulate on a system over many download and similar sessions. The process or work flow of FileSieve 3 is well defined in a five numbered step process (see image). A profile and/or a list of directories can be created, saved and loaded for future sessions. These source folder(s) would contain all the files that will be sorted using FileSieve. Then a destination folder is chosen where the sifted and sorted files will be placed in. The third step is to choose method(s) and if applicable modifiers.A method, one of 13 that FileSieve 3 supports, defines how the chosen files are sorted and processed. These methods are themselves very configurable and it is very easy to come up with complex criteria to operate on the chosen files. Methods include:Sorting by attribute: Subfolders in the destination directory will distinguish files that are Read Only, Hidden, Temporary, Offline, Compressed, Normal and more.Biggest: The biggest file from the source directory is placed in the destination directory.Consolidate: All Files from the source directory are placed into the root directory of the destination folder.Date Stamp: Files separated into dated destination folders.Delimiter: Files sorted based on delimiter characters in their names, for example “-” in the file name.Extension: Files are separated and sorted based on their extension. Likely the most used feature of the program.MP3 Download FileSieve latest version for Windows free. 2025-03-26FileSieve uses a few terms to describe certain features, which are detailed below. Profile Each Profile is unique, and contain their own set of Source Items, active Method and Modifiers, and various other settings. This allows you to create sets of self-contained settings that do not interfere with each other. Source Items, Items, Item, Files, File A Source Item is either a directory or a file that resides within the source directories (in Step 1 of the application's main window), depending on the context the term is being used in. A Source Item is sometimes referred to as simply an Item. Method A method of sorting files. In FileSieve, Methods are the primarily way in which files and directories are processed. Selecting a Method will cause FileSieve to process any items in the specified source directories in a particular way; to see how each method affects files and directories, select any method to view its intended purpose. Modifier A modifier is an action that modifies a part (or entirely as a whole) of a file's path, filename, and/or extension. For example, enabling the Casing modifier and setting the Filename Casing to Word Capitalisation will cause FileSieve to capitalise the start of each word in a filename, while leaving the path and file's extension unchanged. Modifiers are applied after an item (file) has been processed, so modifiers are not affected by the currently active Method. For Technical Users A Modifier is applied after a Method has finished processing an item; this means the Modifier has a higher priority than a Method and can override it. Trigger A Trigger - or specifically, a Profile Trigger - waits for a certain action on the computer to occur and then automatically starts processing a Profile. This is a way to perform automatic profile processing. Regular Expression(s) A regular expression is... something wonderful. Sorry; this isn't very easy to explain. A Regular Expression (regex) allows the searching and matching of text using various rules - all within a single text string. FileSieve supports regex in various places to provide flexibilty. You can read more about Regular Expressions here. Tip FileSieve internally shortcuts the .* and .+ expressions to always match. This results in a significant performance increase, so please ensure you enter either of those as-is to benefit.
2025-04-11Item will be fully processed into the mirrored locations; Items are not simply copied from the main destination into these locations, but go through the overwrite rules, etc, pipeline. ENTERPRISE EDITIONHOME EDITION The addition of the Delete copy mode allows you to, for example, combine it with the Duplicate method to delete all duplicate items that are found. ENTERPRISE EDITIONHOME EDITION Full import and export of Source Item lists. ENTERPRISE EDITIONHOME EDITION System tray support to always have FileSieve on-hand, with the addition of starting Profiles directly from the system tray. ENTERPRISE EDITIONHOME EDITION The full support and customisation of backing up and restoring various configurational aspects of FileSieve. ENTERPRISE EDITION Triggers can be set up to automatically run a profile when certain system events occur. ENTERPRISE EDITION Profiles can be set up in a Jobs list and run in sequence without any user intervention. MY PERSONAL THANKS As always, my eternal gratitude for supporting me so I can continue working on FileSieve!
2025-04-16Match, the item isn't processed. Notice about Backreferencing Because paths can be entered directly within both Insert into Path and Insert into Filename, the Find Replace plugin does not use the standard regular expression backreference \ character. Instead, back-references are referenced(!) using the pipe | character. Insert into Path This is the item's path that should be used within the root destination. For example, entering a value of My Folder would result in a folder called My Folder being created within the root destination and the currently-processing item being placed within it. Nesting folders is supported. Insert into Filename This is the new name to use for the file; the remarks for Insert into Path apply here except that you can't enter folder names here (the \ character is disallowed). Leaving this textbox blank will keep the name of the file as-is. Test The data test to use; this takes the place of the item(s) to be processed in the editor and is recommended that you use the full path and filename of an item from one of the Source Item locations. This will let you see if the Find Replace entry is working as expected. This Test value is ignored while FileSieve is processing. Result The result of the currently selected entry and the entered Test path/file data above. An error message will be shown if there were any errors encountered (eg. regex syntax error). Examples Below are some examples. Find Insert Path Insert Filename Test Result tv\.show\.S(\d\d)E(\d\d)\.(.*) - TV Show - |1x|2|3 tv.show.S13E01.mp4 TV Show - 13x01.mp4
